SEACOM’s History and Future Direction
Seacom started as a simple proprietorship organized by the founder, Jose G. Sanvictores, a retired government executive who served under former American Governors General and two past Philippine Presidents-namely, Manuel L. Quezon and Jose. B. Laurel. It started as a three man trading operation with the founder acting as General Manager.
In 1950, the founder decided to have it incorporated and thus SEACOM was born.
As a trading company, it sold agricultural machines such as Mitsubishi engines, threshers, power tillers and pumps. Seacom popularized the “Jet-matic” motorized pump and handpump. Seacom also sold plywood equipment and industrial knives on indent basis.
In 1969, Seacom organized the Seacom Industrial Corporation (SCIC), a foundry and machining plant, to assemble Mitsubishi power tillers and water cooled diesel engines as well as manufacture Dragon Jetmatic handpumps.
In 1983, Seacom activated Seacom Manufacturing, Inc. ( SMI) to fabricate water tanks, rice mills, composters and construction equipment.
Other products, such as shower heaters, solar heaters, heat pumps were launched after the year 2000.
In the future, Seacom, to balance its product line make up, will be actively pursuing products related to energy savings and the anti pollution field - high value products that require engineering skills and competence.
After 2006, in its desire to diversify, Seacom will enter into partnership with other parties involved in the service sector, such as a language institute to service the requirements of the call center industry and corporate clients, and other business opportunities which are service oriented that can give the company reasonable returns on its investment.
